Join our team – Communications Intern

Engagement

Position: Communication Intern

Total term: 3 to 6 months // full time

Starting date: Ideally as soon as possible

Leave: All Cambodian public holidays and an additional 1.5 days per month

Location

Destination Justice’s Office in Phnom Penh

Expectations

Primary Expectation: Communication and Information

  1. Working with DJ’s management and partners to develop and evaluate a comprehensive media and communications strategy for the organisation’s work.
  2. Drafting press statements, newsletters and other public relations material to communicate DJ’s position on emerging developments in line with its mission statement and programme goals.
  3. Creating timely, regular, bespoke social media content and working to build DJ’s audience across platforms.
  4. Building relationships with, and collaborating on content for, media organisations.
  5. Work with staff ahead of events and meetings to devise key messages and integrate social media into the activities.
  6. Collaborating with DJ’s partners including Rainbow Community Kampuchea to work on supporting implementation of their advocacy and outreach goals for Cambodia UPR in January 2019.

Other Expectations:

  1. When needed, participate and assist other team members in conducting other tasks related to the organisation‘s other programs.
  2. Participate in the organisation’s life.

  • Will work cooperatively and collaboratively in a team
  • Has a strong sense of “initiative”, “gumption”, “common sense”
  • Will be able to develop effective cross-cultural relationships
  • Will be adaptable, especially in the face of adversity
  • May have an interest in collaborating with Destination Justice in the longer term

Desirable Skills

We are looking for someone who:

  • Does not fear interacting with others
  • Has a problem-solving mind and does not let her/his/their curiosity on hold
  • Knows how to use technology / is willing to learn (e.g. blogging, video making, strong presence on social media, …)
  • Has a nice presentation and behave in a professional way
  • Fluency in English (native is a plus), knowledge of Khmer and/or French is a plus.

Desirable Background

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a business/communication/media/journalism background, social entrepreneurship experience is a plus
  • Has some experience organising events (any scale of events)
  • Has experience with youth
  • Has experience in animating activities / workshops
  • Has experience finding/working with partner organisations, sponsors and/or donors

Additional Information

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has an interest in social justice and human rights
  • Has an interest for Asia and/or Cambodia in particular
