KAS’s Law Talk March 2015: Cambodian Constitution Law – Implications for State Organisation and Basic Rights

Upon Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung (KAS)’s invitation, around 30 Cambodian and International legal experts gathered last weekend in Sihanoukville to debate constitutional and rule of law reforms in Cambodia. This forum had two main objectives. The first one was to discuss the “Electoral, Parliamentary and Political Party Reform” as well as basic constitutional rights, their international foundations and legal enforcement in Cambodia. A special focus was given on the second day on the analysis of the newly adopted Electoral Law which was explained from the CPP’s perspective by H.E. Sik Bunhok, the CNRP’s perspective by H.E. Destination Justice and the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia renew MoU for two years

Destination Justice and the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia (BAKC) renew their partnership for two years (2015-2016). While the first MoU was focused on Legal Education and the assistance to the Lawyer Training Centre, the extension adds a research and strategy component to assist the BAKC to develop its own solutions in regard to legal aid and continuing legal education. The signing of the MoU recognise the importance of role of the lawyers and the commitment of the BAKC to promote rule of law and reduce inequalities.

Destination Justice and the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia sign Memorandum of Understanding

The 13th of December 2013 marks the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Destination Justice and the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The MoU aims to improve legal training in Cambodia by fostering greater cooperation in the design and provision of legal training courses to Cambodian lawyers. The budding relationship will give greater efficacy to Destination Justice’s Legal Education Assistance Program by reinforcing our commitment to provide practical, skills-based training to legal professionals.

Arbitration Training Course, Phnom Penh

Destination Justice, in cooperation with international law firms Clifford Chance and Wilmer Hale, organised an Arbitration Training Course held at the Lawyers Training Centre of the Bar Association of Cambodia. This course began on 6 November 2013 and ran until 8 November 2013.
